If you are reading this we assume you are grieving the loss of a loved one. Please accept our condolences and prayers for you at this time and in the weeks and years ahead. We offer this information as a way of helping you make your way through the many decisions surrounding the funeral service and reception. Please feel free to consult with the pastor and discuss any concerns you may have as she will be your connection with the church throughout the planning and carrying out of your wishes.

It is assumed that families who request the service of the minister and the facilities of the Guilford Community Church desire that the funeral ceremony will be a Christian one. The Christian funeral calls upon God, through the Holy Spirit, to bring the family together, celebrate the gifts of the loved one and bless the passage of the deceased into God’s arms . As a rule, it is the minister of the Guilford Community Church who performs funerals; the participation or leadership of other ministers needs to be discussed with the GCC pastor.

We would be very grateful and would keep you informed as to gifts offered in the name of your loved one. These gifts are used for special purchases in the church on an as needed basis unless you would like them restricted for something special such as a plant, bench or part of the steeple we hope to rebuild one day.

Funerals for Church Members and their families often include a reception after the service. For these families, our CARE Committee would be happy to organize congregants to provide a reception after the service or burial for those who attend. Usual food options include;

$3.00 per person: Hot and cold beverages with cookies.

$6.00 per person: A light meal to include finger –sandwiches, salads and the above.

This also covers building rental, utilities and the cost of cleaning before and after the service.
