= Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth Group
The Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth group was established in 2005 in response to Hurricane Katrina by Rev Barbro Hansson of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church and Lise Sparrow, pastor of Guilford Community Church.
Youth and adults from three local churches and two pastors took the train to New Orleans and worked helping clear flooded homes for reconstruction. SInce then youth from virtually all local churches, the Jewish community and other faith traditions and no religious affiliation have gathered year after year for service learning trips. The focus is always on learning about the communities we serve and then helping in ways the communities themselves define.
We have travelled to St Croix to renovate the Boys and Girls Club, to Kenya to plant trees, provide clean water and de-worming medication and paint a mural and for the past four years, to South Dakota to work with the Cheyenne River people through the Simply Smiles organization. For more information email Rev. Sparrow at GCCUCC@sover.net or call 802-257-2776.
