THE BRATTLEBORO AREA INTERFAITH YOUTH GROUP (BAIYG) will be traveling to North and South Dakota from July 4 to 15 this summer for a service learning trip. They will be offering a service at the Guilford Community Church to explain the details of their trip on SUnday, June 30, at 10:00 am.
WHO: We are 13 teens and 8 adults—many from GCC…Lily, Margaret, Sam, Stennie, Terry, Joellen and Lise.
WHEN: The week from July 6 to 13
WHERE: They will live and work with the Cheyenne River Lakota people in La Plant and Swift Bird, South Dakota
WHAT: Helping with construction and hosting a summer camp for the local children and teens.
LEARNING: Upon arrival they will visit the Pine Ridge Reservation and after the work-week they will spend two days on the Standing Rock Reservation.
WHY: Our mission is to raise our own awareness of the history of Native Americans on the Lakota Reservationand to return and share what we learn. The work with children and construction is a concrete contribution but our awareness raising is important as well.
How Can you Help? Contribute supplies. We specifically need fine point sharpies, needles and thread fabric scraps, polaroid cameras, fabric paint.
