Music for December 8, 2019

Dear GCC Choir,
This Sunday we'll gather
at 8:55 am for our 9:00 am rehearsal.  Lise is leading the 2nd Sunday of
Advent. She and I have chosen two beautiful classic anthems, one old
and one new:
Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light words Johann Rist 1641, music J. S. Bach 1737

Candlelight Carol by John Rutter 1984

LYRICS

Break
forth, O beauteous heavenly light,

Johann Rist

Break
forth, O beauteous heavenly light,

and
usher in the morning;

O
shepherds, shrink not with affright,

but
hear the angel's warning.

This
child, now weak in infancy,

our
confidence and joy shall be,

the
power of Satan breaking,

our
peace eternal making.

Candlelight Carol

John Rutter

How do you capture the wind
On the water?
How do you count all the stars
In the sky?
How can you measure the love
Of a mother?
Or how can you write down
A baby's first cry?

Candlelight, angel light,
Firelight and starglow;
Shine on his cradle 'til breaking of dawn,
Gloria, gloria, in excelsis deo.

Angels are singing, the Christ child is born;
Shepherds and wise men will kneel
And adore him,
Seraphim round him their vigil will keep.
Nations proclaim him their Lord
And their savior,
But Mary will hold him, and sing him to sleep.

Angels are singing, the Christ child is born,
Find him at Bethlehem laid.
In a manger
Christ our Redeemer asleep
In the hay.
Godhead incarnate and hope
Of salvation
A child with his mother
That first Christmas Day.

Angels are singing, the Christ child is born.

See you at 8:55 am Sunday.
Joy, Health, Love & Peace,
Peter
