Nationally renowned musician and activist Scott Ainslie will join the congregation of the Guilford Community Church, UCC, Sunday April 7, to share his original song “Land That I Love” and a story of a failed border crossing on the Arizona border. It is the fifth Sunday of Lent and a celebration of the story of the prodigal son, another story of a tortured journey but with a very different ending. The choir under the direction of Peter Amidon will offer two anthems: “Camino Pueblo De Dios” and “ Prodigal’s Return” featuring Tony Barrand as the soloist. Rev Lise Sparrow will offer a homily focused the lenten symbology of “journey” in light of the plight at the southern border. The Sunday school will prepare Easter cards with Carole Crompton, both for migrant children being held in custody and for local church members who are no longer able to come to church.
The 2pm event featuring John Willis and Arthur Running Horse has been postponed to May.
