Sunday, April 14 is Palm Sunday and the worship service will be blessed with the voices of Tony Barrand, Andy Davis and Fred Breunig opening the service with the Merchants Carol, a traditional telling of the Palm Sunday story, followed but the Procession of the Palms within the sanctuary. There will also be a baptism for two children, Lila Tadlock and Parker Tidd to celebrate the day. The contemporary reading is a modern interpretation of the beatitudes by Nadia Bolz-Weber and the scripture for the day, Luke 19: 1-10, tells the story of Zaccheus’ pure heart. Rev Lise Sparrow will offer the homily, “Blessed Are…” and the choir, under the direction of Andy Davis will offer two anthems: “The Lord’s Prayer”, a new composition by Peter Amidon, and “Ain’t That a Good News”, an African American spiritual. The children will learn an Israeli dance in preparation for the Seder Supper to be held Thursday at 5:30 and color eggs to deliver to people unable to come to church. Nursery care is provided every week for children 5 and under.
After church at noon the Lenten Series will continue with a video featuring Father Richard Rohr speaking about the Universal Christ and a discussion to follow. Other events this coming Holy Week include the Seder Supper at 5:30pm to be followed by the Service of Tenebrae at 7pm on Thursday and the Ecumenical Good Friday Service to be held from 12noon to 3 pm Friday at the church. Everyone is welcome.
