Sunday, February 2 is Candlemas and Tony Barrand, Andy Davis and Fred Breunig will lift up the meaning of the day with the anthem “Candlemas Eve”. The church will be decorated with boxwood and the evergreens taken down, signalling the coming of light as Candlemas marks the winter equinox.  In Christian liturgy it is the fifth Sunday of Epiphany and readings will include the recognition of Jesus as Messiah and an invocation by Gueric de Igny from th eleventh century drawing the parallel between contemplative practice with this time of year. Rev Lise Sparrow will lead worship and the sacrament of holy communion and share the calling of the different disciples for the children’s story. Peter Amidon will lead the choir in two anthems , “Birds at the Dawning” by Betsy Binstock and “Brotherhood and Sisterhood” by Peter Amidon.
At 1pm the Brattleboro Area Interfaith Youth Group will met to begin planning the July trip to the Cheyenne River Reservation. Youth who will be fifteen by June 25 are welcome to attend. For more information call Lise Sparrow at 257-0776.
