Sunday February 9

The season of Epiphany continues on Sunday, February 9 at 10am and with it, another story of the light of Jesus. Isaiah 58: 6-12 and John 11: 1-40 are scripture for the day. The children will hear the story of Lazarus from Rev Sparrow and the congregation will reflect together on who this man, the brother of Mary and Martha, was. .  Who can we say was responsible for his miraculous return to health? Had Mary not sent word would Jesus have been convinced to come?   Were there others just as important that Jesus had to tend to first?  Who was Lazarus and why did he die? The story is filled with mystery and, ultimately, with Light.  Music for the day under the direction of Peter Amidon includes “Lazarus” from the folk tradition and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel.  During the service middle schoolers will meet wit Mary Grove for discussion after the sermon and the children will work with Terry Sylvester learning about the church mission in Kenya and the children there.  After church the social outreach committee will meet to plan the upcoming campaign to support the upcoming  interfaith youth trip.
