Sunday, January 31

Long-time church members, Connie Green and Fred Breunig, collaborate to lead Guilford Community Church’s online worship tomorrow at 10 AM (link on the church homepage www.guilfordchurch.org). The service will also be broadcast on BCTV at 8 AM on Sunday and 6:30 AM on Wednesday. Pastor Elisa Lucozzi is taking time off to rest, pray, and reflect in advance of Lent and Easter. She will return to the pulpit on Sunday, February 14.

This Sunday’s service will feature music and hymns from the church’s film archive, which also gives our hard-working choir directors a break from the labors of virtual choir production. Tony Barrand, accompanied by Margaret Dale Barrand and Fred Breunig, will be featured in a 2020 recording singing “Candlemas Eve,” a poem by Robert Herrick set to a traditional Basque tune. From the same worship service, Guilford’s 9 o’clock choir will sing “Give Me Birds at the Dawning,” by Betsy Binstock, arranged by Peter and Mary Alice Amidon. Hymns will be from a 2019 worship service: “All Beautiful the March of Days,” “O For a World,” and “A Mighty Fortress in Our God.”

Tom Green will read Scripture lessons from Deuteronomy and the Gospel according to Luke. Patrice Murray will present the Prayers of the People. Fred and Connie will offer their reflections on Candlemas, new beginnings, and fresh starts. Margaret Dale will speak to the children and read Jude Daly’s To Everything There is a Season.
