Sunday, January 5, the church will celebrate the Feast of Epiphany which marks the arrival of the wise men at the creche.
Just as the story of the Christmas Carol unfolds orver time so too the journey of the Wisemen is long and treacherous, replete with the secret machinations of Herod and the death of infants in Bethlehem. This counterpoint of evil and wisdom against the hope and innocence of Christ is manifest in the nativity scene and story. Three of the Nowell singers, Fred Breunig, Tony Barrand and Andy Davis will lead off the service with an old favorite, “Over Hill, Over Dale” which sets the scene of the arrival of camels and two other anthems “March of Kings” and “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” will be sung by the choir. Other hymns and scripture retelling the King story, along with “Blessing” by John O ‘Donohue, fill out the service. Rev Lise Sparrow will offer a homily and offer the sacrament of holy communion. The Sunday School will visit the nativities at Shirley Squires House after the children’s story. Everyone is welcome.
January 12, the church will host a potluck celebration of the completion of the capital campaign after church and the congregation would like to express thanks to friends within the community who contributed. Please be welcome to attend next Sunday’s service and luncheon following.
