This weekend, July 11-12 has been designated Black Lives Matter Sabbath and faith communities around the country are working to build a circles of protection for the loved ones in our communities. That work continues every day through our gestures and advocacy but this weekend the congregation is invited to wear black in solidarity with others around the nation.
The worship service itself will include quotes from Martin Luther King Jr and an excerpt from Ralph Ellison’s last novel, “Juneteenth”.  Music for the day under the artistic direction of Peter Amidon  includes music from the African American, South African and Buddhist traditions as well as folks and traditional hymns. The childrens story will reflect on ways we are blind to each other and ask children to think of ways to bridge differences. Rev. Lise Sparrow will offer the second of two sermons focussed on racial justice, this week describing the work of abolitionists over millennia and the relationship of systemic racism to the rules of patriarchy which governed the lives of Jacob and Esau as described in Genesis 25:19-34. Everyone is welcome. If you have difficulties accessing the services you are welcome to cal Fred Breunig at 254-9019.
