“Reciprocity” will be the theme of the July 21 worship service at 10am at the Guilford Community Church, UCC. Poems from the Native American tradition, scripture taken from Genesis 18:1-10 and the initial reflections of Terry Sylvester and Rev Lise Sparrow on the recent interfaith youth trip to South Dakota will frame the service. Music under the direction of Peter Amidon will include “Silver Rain and “Now is the Cool of the Day”, both of which celebrate the cycles of nature and the human obligation to care for them. New members Helen Merena. Mary Mader and Nancy Marsh will be welcomed and celebrated with a reception after the service. Childcare is provided during church for children of all ages.
Sylvester was responsible for the painting of a mural for the children of the La Plant community on the Cheyenne River Reservation and Rev Sparrow (a grandmother and longtime supporter of the project) was invited to celebrated the ground breaking for a children’s village planned to care for children who need to be fostered in the community. The project was envisioned and funding was secured by the local grandmothers group and the building will be overseen by the Simply Smiles Organization which hosted the Brattleboro group. Others in the group helped with a summer camp for local children. Sylvester will speak about the sacred hoop and Rev Sparrow will share the story of the land and project, an amazing evolution.
