Rev Lise Sparrow shares the story of the Ugly Duckling, along with instructions for making an origami swan, with the children and offers the liturgy and a sermon focused on the theology of Father Gregory Boyle, author of two books: Tattoos on the Heart and Barking to the Choir. Boyle began pastoring gang members in Los Angeles thirty years ago and has established Homeboy Industries which now employs over 10,000 ex-gang members. Rev. Sparrow cites his work as a life-giving expression of Christianity for our times and of the motherly/fatherly love we all crave. Al Franklin reads the scripture the day taken from John 14 and Lucy Spahr-Blazej and Fred Ashworthh read the prayers of the people, a Mother’s Day Prayer.
