Sunday, November 17

“What’s in a Day?” Is it the work we accomplish? Our sense of awe? Of Peace? Peter Amidon will offer a poem, “The Life in a Day” by Tom Hennen, as the contemporary reading for 10am worship at Guilford Community Church, UCC on November 17. Rev Lise Sparrow, just back from silent retreat, will offer a homily of preparation for the 2019 Annual meeting to be held after church, asking what it is that we as a church envision for the church and our lives.  The scripture for the day, taken from Isaiah 65 and 2 Thessalonians, is a reminder both of God’s vision for humanity and of our role in holding and living out that vision.  The choir under the direction of Peter Amidon will offer two anthems: “Give Us a Song” and “Welcome Holy Spirit”.  Anyone is welcome to sing with the choir which meets at 8:55am before worship.
Rev Sparrow will engage the children during the service in pondering the gifts of God’s endangered creatures, after which they will adjourn downstairs to decorate Thanksgiving boxes for donations provided by the church for families living in poverty and with AIDS. Shortly after the service the congregation will meet in the sanctuary for the 2019 Annual Meeting at which the new budget will be considered.
