The celebration will hold up our partnership with the village of Kaiguchu, Kenya, where have supported children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The music for the day, under the direction of Andy Davis, will include two hymns learned in Kenya, one “Amazing Grace” in the kikuyu language and “Hakuna Mungu Kama Yeye” a favorite of Wangari Maathai who first introduced us to her work and ours in Kenya and another anthem, “Build a Bridge” by Alvin Slaughter , a well-known African American gospel composer. The scripture for the day includes an excerpt on working with youth, written by Maathai and the story of Lazarus and the blind man found in First Timothy 6: 6-13. Rev Lise Sparrow will complete her two part series focused on the paradox of “perfection/imperfection” and the nature of the still-speaking God. The children of the church will prepare for the blessing of a new peace pole which will take place next week and work to complete the ABC book about Christianity they are working on. Nursery care is also provided. Everyone is welcome!
